Treatment Foster Care

About the Program
The Treatment Foster Care Program is an inter-agency collaboration involving Lake of the Woods Child Development Centre (CDC), Kenora-Patricia Child & Family Services (KPCFS) and Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services (AAFS).

The Program has been developed for the purpose of creating and facilitating treatment foster care placements for children, whose needs cannot be met by regular foster care.

The treatment foster home differs from that of a regular foster home in terms of the training that is required and accommodations these caregivers must make in order to care for and meet the needs of these children. The ability of the treatment foster parents to provide “treatment” through placement is assisted by the support and intervention they receive from Family Faciliators.

Referrals
Referrals to the program are received exclusively from either KPCFS or AAFS and involve children who are crown wards of these child welfare organizations.

Typically, children referred are experiencing multiple difficulties stemming from attachment issues; multiple placements; severe behavioural concerns; and often these children have a mental health diagnosis.

Location
The Treatment Foster Care Program covers the Kenora/Rainy River District.

Cost
There are no costs for foster parents. These services are funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and the Ministry of Community, Family and Children’s Services.
